About the event
While everyone's experience is unique, dying can be a time of meaning and purpose. This presentation will explore the continuum of care for serious illness and the vital role of the speech-language pathologist.
Caitlin Saxtein, M.S., CCC-SLP, BCS-S, CBIS is a medical speech-language pathologist with over a decade of experience working in acute care. She also has experience in settings throughout the continuum of care, including subacute rehabilitation, outpatient, and home health.
Caitlin values continuing education and volunteering. She has received the ASHA ACE Award 11x and was nominated for Peconic Bay Medical Center President's Award: Extraordinary Impact in 2023. She is an active member of local, state, and national SLP organizations. And is currently serving as the Vice President of Long Island Speech-Language Hearing Association (LISHA), Director of Speech Hospitals & Agencies with New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NYSSLHA), and Editorial Board Member for SIG 13. She has been selected to present at the local, state, national and international levels, as well as a guest speaker on podcasts.
Caitlin is passionate about providing support, knowledge, and empowerment to honor what matters most at the end of life, thus recently completed coursework through the University of Vermont to receive an End-of-Life Doula Professional Certificate. Caitlin also has an extensive background volunteering with East End Hospice and was nominated for the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) Volunteers are the Foundation of Hospice Award in 2021.
